Description: The site is located in the centre of the town of Clane. It is marked on both the 1st edition OS 6" map and the 1897-1913 OS 25" map. The latter map records the church as being in ruins. The site is accessed directly from the R407 via a gate at the north end of the western boundary wall. A path leads to and around the church which dominates the north of the enclosure. The ground level appears quite even and the grass is quite short, but the ground level slopes away to the south. The church is located on the highest point. All visible gravestones are lining the boundary wall which might imply that they are not where they were originally set.

Appraisal: The site is of considerable archaeological, architectural and historic interest, attesting to the long-standing ecclesiastical presence in the area. An 18th Century church with a four storey 17th Century tower stands on the site and which was the location of the original monastery. The boundary wall is fully upstanding with signs of repair on the south side. All gravestones are located along the boundary walls and are not in their original locations.
